If you’re looking to use Feng Shui for wealth, the FIRST thing you need to do is to find your Feng Shui wealth areas and corners.

I’m guessing you probably already know one or two wealth areas in your home. In this article, I will tell you five different approaches to find the Feng Shui wealth areas in your home. Each method may give you a different answer, and I will tell you what this means at the end of this article.

How to Find Feng Shui Wealth Areas min 1 - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods

Before I begin, let me manage your expectations.

First, finding the wealth area is step one. What you do with the wealth area and corners and how you activate it with Feng Shui wealth formulas is a whole other topic. Sometimes, it can get quite complicated. That’s why I frequently suggest that you consult with a Feng Shui expert.

Second, wealth does not directly translate into money in your pocket, although sometimes it does. Traditionally, the purpose of Feng Shui is for agriculture, abundance, and prosperity. Thus, wealth can mean an abundance in necessities of life (food and clothing) and in your social relationships.

After knowing these, you’ll be in a better position on how to use the info I’m about to give you. Let’s start with the most common method that many of you may already know.

Method #1: Wealth Sector Based on the Bagua

I’m guessing you already know this one – the Feng Shui wealth area is at the Southeast based on the Bagua.

Notice how the Southeast area of the Bagua, like the one below, shows “Prosperity & Abundance” and not money. This just means that this area represents not just money in your pocket, but prosperity and abundance in life. Some other Bagua, however, will show “Wealth & Prosperity” and some will just show “Money”.

The basics of a Feng Shui Bagua.

To find this area in your home, all you have to do is to divide your home’s floor plan into nine sectors similar to the image shown below:

floor plan nine mansions feng shui min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
The Feng Shui 9 Palaces on a floor plan.

If your floor plan is a perfect square, finding your Southeast corner wouldn’t be hard. If that’s the case, that sector is your Feng Shui wealth area based on the Bagua.

However, it’s likely that your floor plan is not a perfect square. If it’s rectangular shaped (like mine), look for the Southeast corner (or area) of the house. That’ll be your Feng Shui wealth corner.

Sometimes, drawing it out according to the 9 palaces can be difficult. Some other experts divide the floor plan like a pie, as shown in the image below:

If you have questions or are confused, I suggest that you find a Feng Shui expert to assist you.

Missing Wealth Area Based on the Bagua

It’s totally possible that your wealth area is missing.

For instance, if your floor plan is oddly shaped, or if it’s concaved or missing a section in the Southeast, then you do have a missing or weak wealth area.

Here are some sample floor plants where this is the case:

Missing Floor Plan Feng Shui top right corner min 300x277 - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
Although directions are not drawn, you can see that the floor plan above is missing a whole complete section in the top right corner. That’s what a missing section is.

If the Southeast area is missing completely (like the one above), cures are harder to apply. If that’s what your floor plan is like, you’re missing more than just wealth luck. It’ll be wise to find an expert to remedy your home’s Feng Shui.

Missing Floor Plan Feng Shui Few Areas min 300x277 - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
The top right corner of the floor plan above is NOT missing, but weak because of missing areas.

If the Southeast area is present but weak (only missing a surface area like the image above), boosting the area’s energy with elemental cures can help. Meaning, Water elements such as blue themed colors or wavy objects can be placed in that area to boost the Wood element energy that the Southeast area belongs to.

Note: A missing wealth area is also entirely possible for all the other methods you see in this article.

Method #2: Wealth Areas Based on Your Kua

Here’s a brief intro about Kua numbers for those of you who don’t know what it is.

Your Kua number can be thought of as your UNIQUE Feng Shui requirement. The number is calculated from your year of birth based on the lunar calendar, with the cut-off date at around Feb. 4 or 5 every year. On a side note, you can use your Bazi to calculate an even MORE UNIQUE Feng Shui requirement.

Related: Bazi comes before Feng Shui. See why.

There are many free Kua number calculators on the web. Here’s one for free provided by Katie Weber.

Your Kua number will tell you your four lucky directions and four unlucky directions. Your wealth areas are within those four lucky directions.

Here’s a sample for someone who has Kua #8:

Kua 8 300x300 - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
Shown above is a sample Kua for a person with Kua number 8.

Your number one wealth area is your Prosperity area (Shen Chi). Your number two wealth area is your Health area (Tien Yi). Thus, for someone with Kua #8 (refer to image above), his wealth areas are Southwest (Prosperity) and Northwest (Tien Yi).

Finding these areas is very similar to how you found your wealth areas based on the Bagua. The key to applying the Kua onto your floor plan, however, is to find the center of the house. This is can be easily done when you find the intersection point of two diagonal lines drawn across the four corners of your house.

Central Point of intersection min 300x300 - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
The central point of the house is the intersection of two diagonal lines drawn across the four corners.

Once you’ve found the central point, divide up your floor plan according to the eight cardinal directions. It’s like cutting a pie into eight pieces, just that you have to put the eight cardinal directions into consideration. If you can’t find the center of the house because your floor plan is extraordinary, you can find your answers and details in my ebook.

So why is the Prosperity area and the Health area considered your wealth sectors? Here’s a brief explanation:

Prosperity (Shen Chi): Translated as “growth Chi”, this direction can be used for advancing career and starting your business. It gives you the energy and motivation to achieve your goals. If money is what you’re going after, this area will boost your will-power and mental strength.

Health (Tien Yi): Translated as “heavenly doctor”, this direction is related to your health and is said to be indirectly related to wealth. My interpretation is that this area gives you the physical strength and wellness needed to achieve your goals.

One area that is often overlooked is the Stability area (Fu Wei). Some experts claim that this area is a wealth area in the hiding. In other words, it has the potential to be a wealth area. Making sure that this area is not affected by negative Feng Shui can also help you gain stability and potential gains in money matters.

Method #3: Wealth Area based on the House’s Facing Directions

This wealth area is usually referred to as the “hidden” wealth area. In method #5, you’ll see the opposite – the “visible” wealth area or corner.

To find this “hidden” wealth area, you’ll need the direction that the house is facing and your floor plan drawn according to the 9 palaces (refer to Method #1).

If you know which direction your house is facing, simply use the chart below to locate the “hidden” wealth sector of your home:

Hidden Feng Shui Wealth Area based on Homes Face Direction min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
Hidden Feng Shui Wealth Area based on Home’s Face Direction

It’s simple, right? Not so fast.

Here’s where people tend to get wrong. They think that the front door’s direction is the same as the direction that the house is facing. Most of the time this is true. However, there are plenty of houses where the front door’s direction is different from the house’s facing direction.

House Front Door on Side Feng Shui min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
Where is the front door of this house?

Some Feng Shui experts have warned us of the difficulty when finding a house’s true “facing” direction. They say that the surrounding environment, the home’s architecture, and the shape of the roads should all be calculated to find the house’s facing direction.

I’m sure that’s true. However, I don’t think that applies to all houses. Some house should have a facing direction that’s quite obvious. Here’s how you can think of it.

Take a look at the Forbidden city, for example. All the structures and roads are constructed in a way where it makes most sense to enter from the South gate. If you enter from the North gate, it’ll feel as if you’re coming from the back of the structures. It’s just the way the structures are built.

Forbidden City front gate entrance min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
The front gate entrance of the Forbidden City in Beijing.

Now, imagine your house the same way.

When you look at your house from the street, do you feel that it is facing towards you? If you compare your house to a human, do you know where its face is? If yes, this is usually a good indication of where the house is faced towards.

Another way is to find where the backyard is. Usually the opposite side of the backyard is where the “face” of the house is.

By now, you can probably see how a front door’s direction is different from the house’s facing direction. For houses that have their front door on the side and not visible from the street, it’s likely that the front door’s direction is different from the house’s facing direction.

Method #4: Wealth Sector Based on Annual Flying Stars

Many of us neglect time as a factor in Feng Shui. Truth is, time plays a big role in Feng Shui, and the annual afflictions is all about time.

The annual afflictions are based on Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui. It is a patterned language using correlations to represent space and time and the constant cyclical changes in nature. It is a little like astrology, and I have written an article with expert inputs which you can read here.

solar system similar to Feng Shui Annual Afflictions min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
The Feng Shui Annual Afflictions is a little similar to how our solar system works. Both are based on constant cyclical changes.

In short, there are nine different types of flying stars that flies into the 9 palaces (refer to Method #1). Each year, the stars rotate to a different sector. This means that your wealth sector each year will change.

The star that you need to look for is Star #8. It is called the Prosperity Star and is considered the luckiest of all stars. It has the Earth element and correlates with fortune, nobility, and health.

Notice how the star is called “Prosperity” instead of money, just like the Southeast area of the Bagua in Method #1. This means that this star represents not just money in your pocket, but prosperity and abundance in life in general.

Each year, Star #8 will land in one sector of your home. For instance, in 2017, Star #8 is located in the East. That means the East area, based on the 9 palaces, will be your wealth area.

Method #5: “Visible” Wealth Corners Based on Your Front Door

This is the so-called “visible” wealth corner. I don’t think this was part of Classical Feng Shui, but this method became very popular in urban living environments.

The front door is the mouth that intakes and receives the outside energy into your house. It’s the entrance for auspicious Qi that will benefit the house’s occupants. Part of that auspicious Qi are the energies that bring you wealth and prosperity.

Given that, the key is to find out where those auspicious Qi gathers in your house. Here’s how you find it.

Stand right in your front door and look for the adjacent corner from the front door like the image below:

visible feng shui wealth area min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods

The reason why this wealth area is called “visible” is because you should be able to see it once you enter the house using your front door.

How this corner is interpreted varies by Feng Shui experts. Some claim that it should be the first corner (or corners) you see. Others claim that it is the corner at the end of the house.

The way I see it, both have their points. If you follow the main principle, and that is the corner where the Qi accumulates, the first corner or the corner at the end of the house are both possible, depending on the layout of your home. Just imagine that the Qi travels the same way as air flowing into the house through the front door.

modern entry divider feng shui min - How to Find Your Feng Shui Wealth Areas: 5 Popular Methods
Some experts suggest that dividers in the front door will change where your “Visible Wealth Area” is located.

Some experts suggest that several other factors can also change the position of these areas. These include whether the front door opens inward or outward as well as the furniture placements within the home (like a heavy furniture or a room divider placed right in front of the front door). It’s always better to consult with a Feng Shui expert when you’re trying to identify your wealth areas.

What If I have Multiple Wealth Areas?

Using these methods, some of you may have found five different wealth areas, whereas others might only have two or three. Do those mean anything?

If you have five (or even six or seven) different wealth areas using these five methods, you DO have five different wealth areas. All of them play a little part in the wealth and prosperity that you’re experiencing in life. You have to make conscious observations and correlations on what’s going on in these areas and how your life is affected to really know which one plays a more influential role.

If you only have one or two wealth areas after applying all these methods, do not worry. That just means that those areas have stronger effects on your wealth and prosperity luck.

In fact, having overlapping wealth areas can make Feng Shui wealth a bit simpler. That means you’d only have to make Feng Shui adjustments on a specific sector instead of making adjustments all over the place.

Also, overlapping wealth areas can make results much more powerful.

Let’s explore one example. If your home faces Northwest with “hidden” wealth area at Southeast, your Kua number is #1 with Prosperity area at Southeast, AND the year has #8 star located at the Southeast, simply taking care of the Southeast area can bring a big impact to your luck. But you’ve probably already done that because Southeast is the Wealth and Prosperity area based on the Bagua!

Before you Feng Shui for wealth, you need to know where to start. Finding your wealth areas and corners is just the first step. The next step is to find ways to boost that area’s energy or activate that area.

That said, simply buying and placing a lucky charm or a three-legged toad at a random location will give you no results. Feng Shui is not magic, and it is not as simple as that. Also, finding the wealth area and corner becomes difficult and complicated when the floor plans and designs are extremely unique or extraordinary.

In that case, I’d suggest you either find a Feng Shui expert to help you or take the courses and training so you can practice Feng Shui correctly. They may even help you with additional wealth setup formulas, like those named the Water Dragon wealth or the Five Ghosts Carry Wealth.

Hi. I have bit of a problem. One of my wealth areas are located in my very unlucky sector. The best one is located in the corner where my toilet is. Yes I know the place I moved into was because of roommates and from the beginning knew it was unlucky. But good news is I’ll be moving soon! Until then however what’s the best option? Thank you so much!

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Emma,
If you’re moving, there’s nothing you need to worry! In the meantime, just keep your toilet clean! That just means you can’t really utilize the space for Feng Shui enhancements.

  3. Mabel

My wealth corner is southeast n my kua no. Is 1. How do l activate my wealth corner?. Currently l have 3 small aquarium with 2 vases with plants. Did l overactivate this area? Your advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Ms Yeoh

      Hi Mabel,
A house and a person have their wealth areas, and activating them depends on which one you’re referring to. For the most part, sleeping/hanging out/working in your wealth area would be great. Your aquarium and plants can also help.

  4. Sukhvinder Singh Nindra

    Hi Mr Victor
My Name is Sukhvinder and I would like to ask you that I want to win some bank prize or someting to say get some funds through lottery how to do that my Kuya No is 5 and by zodiac sign is earth monkey
Kindly advice me your best to me

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Sukhvinder,
I do not know because Feng Shui doesn’t help you do that.

    2. Natalia

      Hi Sukhvinder, and hi,Victor.

Very strange that you, Victor,do not know how to increase change to win lottery by feng shui.
It is possible to activate the sector of wealth and to put there God of Wealth- Tsai Shen Ie or Goddess Cai Shen Poh.
Also you can put candle when flying stars are in favorable location, for example this month is north -west both 8s ,so I think there are possibilities to do it!!
For your info, Sukhvinder you kua is 2 if you are the male. So your lucky direction is Sheng Chi means North-East. So there you have to put gods .

I’m curious about how you determine these directions when you live in an apartment. I live in an apartment in NYC on the corner of two streets. The entrance to the building in on the street facing South (runs east to west). My apartment is on the West Side with two large windows looking out over the water. The entrance to my apartment faces the East on 18th floor off a long hallway. For the purposes of simplification, if you put the door to my apartment in the “north” area of the bagua map, the “northeast” area is missing. There is a bathroom in the east with a mirror covering almost the entire wall that points “north”, offering a window into the missing northeast section. This mirror faces a door and another mirror for a medicine cabinet. I’m trying to figure out what the missing section is, and how to also adjust my bedroom. I also have many pictures from travel that I wish to place in the correct areas. Right now there is metal energy everywhere, but very much in the bathroom and in my choice for bedroom decor and I’m very confused about the affect. My 9 star number is a 9, but my Kua is a 6 and they say different things. I removed a piece of art that was very large covering the wall above the bed that shows a female falling downward face-first in a fearless/aggressive position, with what I’ve determined are watery colors (black, light & dark purple, cyan, blue, with skin tone and hints of magenta and orange. I think it had positive affect but I am trying also to re-position this art properly. I’m so confused about the map and what is the best way to structure the flow, and how the windows affect things.

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Erin,
Don’t worry too much about the missing areas because the effects don’t always manifest.
As for the pictures, you can place it in many places you seem appropriate. Some would suggest not to place pictures of people in the bedroom for various reasons.
Also, do not mix Flying Stars with Eight Mansions together. Practice them separately.
If you’re wondering about wealth areas, the key is how to “gather the wind”, or gathering the energy that’s coming from outside of your home. Placing pictures won’t cut it. I would suggest you have an expert take a look.

The center of my home is in-between two rooms, my Livingroom and my kitchen, what is a remedy for this issue?

The living room was originally a dinning space, and is where the front door is, and the dinning table is in the kitchen. The front room that use to be a living room is my bed room. It’s an old house and was built before running water, so the house has bathroom and laundry room added on the back of the house.

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Helen,
Having the center of your home in between two rooms is fine. You don’t need a remedy for this.

      1. helen ndongo

Thank you for your reply, but I forgot to mention that my stove sits in the middle, is it still not an issue?

  8. Bijoy

I am currently going through a lot of financial difficulties and shifting to a new apartment. The main door is facing North East direction and the balcony is in the South-West direction. Kitchen is in North. Master bed room is in North-West direction with the head facing NW.
My KUA number is 2. What all should I do to trigger my wealth area.
    Please advise.

  9. Eva

I would like to know how did you find the hidden wealth area? What is the reference table based on? Thank you.

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Eva,
This is actually a very good question. I learnt that from a Feng Shui master a long time ago and I took it for granted. The primary purpose of the hidden wealth area is to determine whether the house has the ability to hold wealth.

  10. Regina

When facing door to decide pixie/ wealth I standing outside door looking or inside looking out. My direction is west and I believe my wealth area is center of house

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Regina,
If you’re trying to measure the facing direction of your house, you should be standing inside looking out.

  11. Susan Cranage

Hi. I dig Feng Shui and have read about it for years now. I’m temporarily staying at a friend’s place, specifically in the attic. I keep that, the bathroom and kitchen as clean as possible. Do I map out the bag ua for just my living space? I spend very little time anywhere else in the house, its a mess! I clean and organize occasionally but it almost immediately reverts back to the way it was. (This plagues me with anxiety).
    Thank you.

    1. Victor Cheung Listing Owner

      Hi Susan,
If you’re only staying temporarily, then I wouldn’t worry much about Feng Shui. Just keeping the place clean would do.
